Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do I have to be in recovery from a substance use disorder to attend meetings?
You do not have to be in recovery from a substance use disorder to attend meetings. This group is supportive of anyone who has a desire to work on improving their lives and disengaging from habits of overindulgence.
-
Can I attend the group if I am struggling with an eating disorder or addiction to things other than drugs?
Yes, this will still be a safe space for you to learn and grow. Although the focus of this group is substance use and mental health, the coping skills that we go over are general enough to be applicable to any sort of life situation and everyone can benefit from a supportive community.
-
I am uncertain if this group is right for me or I don't know if I feel comfortable showing up to a group.
We encourage you to attend a meeting to see what we're all about then make that judgment. This is a supportive and non-judgmental group, but understand a peer group setting is not for everyone. We can help you find the support that is right for you through Cenikor. If interested in learning more or finding different options for you, please contact healthycats@txstate.edu.
-
I can't make it to a meeting due to work/ classes, is this the only time that SRA meets?
This is our only official meeting of the week, but we do meet for coffee/ studying/ events outside of the meeting. If interested in spending time with the group outside of official meetings, please email us at healthycats@txstate.edu, so we can add you to the GroupMe.
GroupMe is our primary way of communicating upcoming events and conversations for the group outside of our weekly meetings.
-
I think I may need more services than a weekly support group.
If you reach out we will help to connect you with more community resources. Through Cenikor we have a variety of support services including recovery coaches available to provide one-on-one recovery support. If interested in seeing out different services, please contact us at healthycats@txstate.edu.
